WHY WE CARE ABOUT THIRD PARTY COOKIES AND WHAT IS THE CHANGE MARKETERS CAN EXPECT

Welcome back to yet another blog on Akuna Technologies.

We resume where we stopped last week in our discussion about personalization on search engines with respect to third party cookies.

We emphasized how marketers must work towards search engine optimization with a ‘cookieless’ future through proper consent management practices and so we would like to elaborate a few points for the same for today’s blog agenda. They are as follows:

  • A transformation of data collection
  • A clear, data-driven personalization strategy
  • Higher levels of consumer data control
  • Consent management platforms aren’t going away

A TRANSFORMATION OF DATA COLLECTION

Some of these shifts that are leading to many users wanting to have more trust are privacy regulations. Technology providers in the market are getting involved because they are seeing that consumer demand and they’re getting ahead with the requirements.

Consumers are now going to have more control over what it is. They decide to give the companies the access because they’re going to have the ability to restrict if wanted. Let’s get to reality, marketers now need to start transforming their systems as well.

A CLEAR, DATA-DRIVEN PERSONALIZATION STRATEGY

As the market stands, right now, about 30% of available impressions from Safari, Firefox, and Edge aren’t rendering any third-party cookies today. Yes, you’ll see sign-up forms that don’t work because they’re built using these third-party cookies and haven’t adapted to these browser changes at all which is not good for marketers!

Seeing this tide shift, Google Chrome does account for the majority of the volume on the Internet, but they are still planning on making this change as well.

So, with so many browsers shifting to accommodate these changes as per today’s times, marketers must be wise to create and use tools and strategies that rely on consented first-party data. This should help build consumer trust and improve user experience even better by providing more personalization to them, just the way they prefer.

HIGHER LEVELS OF CONSUMER DATA CONTROL

Users want more control to engage upfront, with engagement meaning immediate connection with them as soon as they land on the site using personalized chatbots on the platforms.

The deal is respecting user privacy and giving them more control over their data! Users feel they must be the ones deciding which pieces of information will be shared with brands, not the other way around as it was previously. The data that companies are getting directly from consumers is increasing with better engagement rates, reducing those unsubscribes, and giving people the ability to choose what it is that they want to hear back.

CONSENT MANAGEMENT PLATFORMS AREN’T GOING AWAY

Some marketers might be wondering why compliant brands are happy using consent management platforms (CMPs) when the death of third-party cookies is fast approaching. The key ingredient here is to stay: collecting and analyzing consumer data. Well, we must say, it is not equal to the death of us collecting information and it is also not going to eliminate the fact that some of that first – and zero-party data companies get could still be shared with third parties just like before. CMPs majorly help marketers build proprietary data sets from consumer consented information, expanding the pool of marketable leads.

Why is this important to understand and absorb…

The most successful digital marketing strategies rely on knowing who your potential customers are? Knowing what they are truly interested in and what they have purchased before — even what demographic group they belong to can be very essential for collecting data.
